My Family

So who am I?  I won’t bore you with the minutia….but let’s say, like most, I wear many hats.  I’m a mom, a wife, a former TV reporter, a “gym rat”, and bit of a social butterfly.  I love to be around people, it’s how I get my energy.   Sure, I like my quiet time, but given the choice between a Saturday night in, or a movie and dinner with friends, I’m putting on my sparkly sweater and going out!   I am a morning person, but it took me years to become one.  My favorite place on earth is the beach.  ANY beach.  I love spending time with my boys (15 and 19) even though as teenagers, they don’t always want to spend time with me.

But why does who I am matter to anyone who would want to train with me?  This is, after all, a blog about Living Your Fit Life, not Cathy McDougall 101.  It matters, because to me, personal training is just that.  PERSONAL.  I get to know you, you get to know me.  I get to know that you hate reps and sets, but you love fast paced movement.  I learn that your spouse “loves you like you are” and doesn’t want you to change, so those 20 pounds aren’t coming off like you want them to.   You discover that I’m a talker, which can either distract you from those last four squats, or make you crazy enough to do them so I’ll just shut up!

Every day I try to live my own fit life.   I watch what I eat, I exercise six days a week, I don’t eat junk food, and I love how I feel when my workout is done for the day.   You need to know that, because it’s what I want for all my clients.  I want them to feel strong, powerful, healthy and happy.   I want them to wake up with enough energy for a new day.  We’ll share that energy with each other—and get stronger for it.

I ate a frog today.   NO, not a real one,  but it was still hard to do.   I had to pump myself up mentally.   I had to prepare myself physically.   But now that it’s done, I wish I had eaten my frog earlier than today.

Mark Twain once wrote:  ”Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.”  Author  uses that image to say that your FROG is the one thing you are most likely to procrastinate on if you don’t do something about it now!  It is also the one task that can have the greatest positive impact on your life and results at the moment.

MY frog is this blog.  I’ve been thinking about it, stewing about it, fretting about it, and worrying about it for months.  Like many of my clients who dread walking into a gym for the first time, I dreaded signing up, and committing to “blogging”.  I worry that the technology will overwhelm me (I’m pushing fifty—my 15-year old son can do this in his sleep!  Wait! I think he does!)

I worry that I’ll get bogged down sitting at the computer, and I’ll end up surfing the web aimlessly as my mind wanders.  (Hey, I only ONCE stopped at r to check out shoes!)  And I worry that just as I master this, the “next, fastest, latest, coolest” thing will whiz past me as I blog.

But as I grow older, or “age gracefully” as I tell myself, I find myself CRAVING the need to share with others my passion for healthy living.  I worry that if we, as a nation, don’t get up and MOVE, our grandchildren and great-grandchildren won’t know how.   And many won’t remember how to show them.   We eat too much, we don’t move enough, and too many of us are sick.

I want EVERYone to know the pure pleasure in living the fit life.  I want EVERYone to know that aches and pains, illnesses and lethargy, CAN be alleviated by physical activity.  I wish EVERYone could wake up in the morning with a spring in their step, and a healthy meal ready to go i n the kitchen.

So, while it’s unrealistic to share with EVERYone, I’m sharing with….well, more than I can in my personal circle.  I have ideas, tips, suggestions and plans that I know can help YOU life your fit life!  What I hope to do in this blog, is share those with anyone seeking a way to improve their life.    This is a pretty rough draft…so come back regularly to catch the updates!   This blog won’t always be easy for me—but I know getting to a gym isn’t always easy for my clients.  But to quote Brian Tracy, “Move out of your comfort zone. You can only grow if you are willing to feel awkward and uncomfortable when you try something new.”

What’s YOUR frog?  Tackle it tomorrow…early.   It’s not as disgusting as it seems!
